Are Downing Street leakers copying the Watergate script?

In the post Watergate analysis that followed Mark Felt's outing as Deep Throat, someone somewhere wrote that Felt leaked, rather than simply going public and resigning, because he could leak slowly and steadily and in that way keep the story in the news and under independent investigation by journalists. He knew the PR wizards of the White House could easily put out the fire if he did otherwise. I wonder if the DSM leakers are consciously following the Deep Throat model. Notice how memos continue to trickle in?

That is, of course, if the Downing Street memo, which actually doesn't have any damaging content, despite the big brew-ha-ha, is even authentic. Would be nice if there were an original copy of the memo, but the original source says he destroyed it.
